This thesis is dedicated to study differential transmission lines from an experimental point of view. Thus, the results obtained here allow to obtain the fundamental parameters of this type of lines through S-parameter data. In this regard, one important contribution derived from this project was the proposal of a methodology for obtaining four-port S-parameters associated with differential transmission lines from a combination of two-port measurements without requiring externally added terminations. From the obtained information, it was possible to carry out an exhaustive analysis of the characteristics presented by transmission lines in both frequency and time domains, which is critical when assessing the performance of these lines in actual interconnection channels. Furthermore, rigorous validations were performed by correlating circuit models and measurements in time and frequency domains. Besides, access to a four-port vector network analyzer allowed to verify that the results obtained using the method proposed in this thesis correspond to those obtained using more costly and measurement setups. Therefore, this work represents a contribution in the signal integrity area by providing circuit designers with effective tools for characterizing and modeling differential transmission lines in a simple and straightforward way.
